The Girl from the Country

Everybody’s experience of hiking is different. The enjoyment I take from a walk on the Moors is different to George’s and as such, I really wanted to be ablet o contribute to Moorland Ramblings, through the occasional blog entry and joining the occasional guided walk (I’ll leave the expeditions to George however). So, a bit about me…

I grew up in the Lake District, with parents who both love the outdoors.  I spent most weekends either on the fells or walking to the local pub (this sounds remarkably like my life now). I didn’t fully appreciate it as a kid, especially when I was dragged out in the rain (which was most of the time, as it was the Lakes).  When I got older and moved away from the Lakes to London (for a certain man) I began to miss walking and being in the outdoors.  Moving to Devon was the perfect change for me to get back into it.  My mum is a Mountain Leader, so taught me how to read a map and use a compass.  Skills which I’ve since had to refresh since moving to Devon.

When we moved I was pregnant, so it wasn’t the quick easy introduction to Dartmoor I thought of.  Our daughter has been on the Moors, in the fells and generally outside all her life, and we plan the same for the expected second. We want to inspire them (like my parents did me) with a love of the outdoors and some useful skills for getting by.

I’m here to give some of my views on our walks, and share some of the issues and joys of hiking as a mum.

I’m George

Welcome to Moorland Ramblings.

I’ve created this site to share my love of all things hillwalking. I’ll share my thoughts, walks and photos (my ramblings) and hopefully my passion.

Please feel free to get in touch with any comments, questions or ramblings of your own, through the details below.

I also offer guided walks and navigation training as a qualified Hill & Moorland leader. If this is of interest, please get in touch through the email address below.
