Identify

Tall herb, about 1m in height. The stems have a deep red hue, and ovoid leaves which are about 20cm long. The yellow flowerheads tend to have around 13 petals and are daisy like in appearance

About

Common Ragwort is widespread throughout the UK, being found in grasslands, forests, roadsides and pastures.

Whilst Ragwort looks pretty enough, it is posionous to livestock and as such, needs to be carefully managed especially if growing near paddocks and pastures.

Common Ragwort is the primary food source of the cinnabar moth and is the most visited flower by butterflies in the UK. More than 200 species of invertebrate have been recorded on it
